Downtown Hotel & Safety At Night

Hi,

I am a very low-key traveller and will not be doing much outdoor exploration.
Does anyone know what the area around either the Quality Inn or Capital Suites is like?
I've seen reviews for both and see some comments about the Quality Inn being next to a declining in popularity mall, which attracts a rough crowd, but I wanted to know how rough i.e. would I have a chance of being mugged or accosted by the people hanging out around the area?

Please help.
